ARTIST STATEMENT / CHIHIRO NAKA
|
I have been painting with Sumi ink because it has fascinated me so much.
Sumi ink was brought to Asia with Buddhism. When I take in the perfume
of Sumi ink, I imagine myself on a trip of Japan's heritage.
My motif is plants. All parts of plants have a perfect aesthetic and inspire me. They are full of energy, make people happy and encourage everyone.I wish for my works to give people the same effects.
I do not draw a rough sketch on my painting. It is similar to making calligraphy
art. Each stroke needs my attention.
My art works have an element of design. This influence comes from my career
as a professional graphic designer. Since I was a child, I have always
wanted to be a painter. I could not give up this dream, so I ended my career
as a designer to pursue my dream.
My mission is to explore the new aesthetic world using Sumi ink, Japan's traditional medium.
